Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41415)

is a nationally accredited qualification and is run in partnership with ACTU Organising Centre. The course runs for 7 days in two parts over a 4 month period.

  • Part 1 will be held on 17 July, 2017 - 19 July, 2017 at our Perth WA Metropolitan Training Center
  • Part 2 will be held on 28 August, 2017 - 31 August, 2017 at our Perth WA Metropolitan Training Center

The Certificate IV in WHS is a guided 2 month program.

Participants training for this Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) qualification attend a 3 day face-to-face workshop at the beginning of the 4 month course, and a second 4 day workshop at the end of the second month. Between workshops participants are expected to read the supplied learner guides and consolidate their knowledge and skill in their own workplace.

Outcomes and Pathways for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) quailification:

This qualification is suited to individuals and business with an established or intended WHS role within the workplace. The qualification prepares participant in a broad range of health and safety functions and responsibilities, including identifying hazards, assessing WHS risks, implementing controls and evaluating WHS performance. Cert IV in Work Health and Safety is a sought after qualification for a WHS practitioner in positions as a WHS coordinator, officer, advisor, manager/supervisor, inspector, HR officer across all industry sectors

On completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41412) for achieving competency in all 10 units or a Statement of Attainment for competency in units successfully completed.

The cost of the course is payable on enrolment by the participant or their employer.

Training is nationally accredited and therefore GST is not payable on fees. Cancellation of an enrolment must be received in writing.

Participant Induction:

Participants receive a half hour induction on the first morning of the first workshop.

The induction provides information about the course, and outlines everyone’s roles and responsibilities.

You will have the opportunity to individually discuss any special needs you have with your Educator.

Arrangements for support will be noted and kept in your individual participant file.

Workshop Attendance Requirements:

Participants are required to attend every day of all courses as per the scheduled dates.

In general, training commences at 9am and concludes at 5pm, with an hour lunch break.

Punctual attendance at all sessions is expected.

What if you are unable to attend a Workshop?

If you are unable to attend training due to illness, or other valid reason, contact your Educator asap in advance or on the morning of training. Alternative arrangements will be offered for assessments completed during the sessions you have missed.

Behaviour During Workshops:

All participants are responsible for helping to maintain both a positive and safe learning environment.

You are expected to observe the Code of Conduct.

Under our Code of Conduct, participants are expected to:

  • follow attendance requirements and observe punctuality for all training sessions;
  • show respect for each other, for the Educators and for all visitors; and
  • take care of training facilities

Participant Support:

Educators will try to give you reasonable access to training and assessment. This includes providing support such as;

  • referral to language, literacy and numeracy assistance, where required;
  • referral to external welfare and guidance services, if appropriate; and/or
  • reasonable / allowable adjustments of assessments if you have special needs.

Educators are available to participants outside course hours via telephone and/or email.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with providing advice about the legislative duties, rights and obligations of individuals and parties prescribed in Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes in the workplace as part of a systematic approach to managing WHS

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to identifying work health and safety hazards; assessing WHS risks; and developing, implementing and evaluating risk controls appropriate to won job role and work area

BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a work health and safety management system (WHSMS) as it applies to own work area and job role

BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with actions and activities performed in response to incidents

  3. Assist with collecting WHS information data relevant to an investigation

BSBWHS407 Assist with claims management, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with the management of worker’s compensation claims, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs

BSBWHS409 Assist with workplace monitoring processes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with monitoring a range of physical agents and conditions relevant to work health and safety.

ELECTIVE
PUAWER002B Ensure workplace emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented

This unit covers the competency required to implement workplace emergency prevention procedures within a workplace or a defined group of workplaces.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and evaluate a strategic approach to organising and recruiting union members.

Note that different organising plans may be developed for different worksites, employers and/or groups of workers.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work with diversity and to promote equality within the union and the workplace. It deals with challenging discrimination on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age and employment status.
