About this Course: 

This course provides Safety and Health Representatives with the competencies required under the WA Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984.

An understanding of the objectives of the Act and their role under the Act, including:

  • Knowledge of their powers under the legislation, and how to effectively exercise them;
  • Skills in representing the members of their designated work group including consulting and negotiating with their employer;
  • Skills in identifying hazards and the process by which they should be controlled;
  • Knowledge of where, and how, to obtain assistance in dealing with hazards and dangerous situations;
  • An understanding of the role of occupational health and safety in the workplace in the prevention of accidents, injury and disease.
  • Conflict Resolution and the issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices are incorporated in this course.

As a OSH Rep, you are entitled to attend training with a provider of your choice, in consultation with your Employer.

This course delivers the five (5) core units from BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety.

BSBWHS307

Apply knowledge of WHS laws in the workplace.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and comply with work health and safety Acts, regulations and codes of practice in the workplace.

 

BSBWHS308

Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain a health and safe workplace through participation in the process of identifying work health and safety (WHS) hazards and assessing and controlling   WHS risks, and the promotion and support of worker consultation.
It applies to individuals who assist with the identification of workplace hazards and the addition to their main duties.

 

BSBWHS309

Contribute effectively to WHS Communication and consultation processes.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in work health and safety (WHS) communication and consultation processes as part of their work health and safety responsibilities, which are in addition to their main duties.

 

BSBWHS310

Contribute to WHS issue resolution processes.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to work health and safety (WHS) issue-resolution processes, and to communicate their outcomes.
It applies to individuals who contribute to the resolution of WHS issues in the workplace as part of their WHS responsibilities which are in addition to their main duties.

BSBWHS416

Contribute to workplace incident response.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with actions and activities performed in response to work health and safety (WHS) incidents which includes accidents.
It applies to individuals who work under supervision and use some discretion and judgement to respond to incidents within their level of responsibility.  The unit applies to people who work in a broad range of WHS roles across all industries.

 

After successfully completing the five (5) core units, participants can choose to undertake an assessment process for a Statement of Attainment for the units delivered in the introductory course. Evidence will be required and a workbook will be provided to participants. Evidence required in assessment is workplace based and is not covered during the course.
