Course Details:
This course provides Safety and Health Representatives with the competencies required under the WA Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984.
An understanding of the objectives of the Act and their role under the Act, including:
- Knowledge of their powers under the legislation, and how to effectively exercise them;
- Skills in representing the members of their designated work group including consulting and negotiating with their employer;
- Skills in identifying hazards and the process by which they should be controlled;
- Knowledge of where, and how, to obtain assistance in dealing with hazards and dangerous situations;
- An understanding of the role of occupational health and safety in the workplace in the prevention of accidents, injury and disease.
- Conflict Resolution and the issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices are incorporated in this course.
As a OSH Rep, you are entitled to attend training with a provider of your choice, in consultation with your Employer.
This course delivers four (4) core and one (1) elective units from BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety.

After successfully completing the four (4) core and one (1) elective units, participants can choose to undertake an assessment process for a Statement of Attainment for the units delivered in the introductory course. Evidence will be required and a workbook will be provided to participants. Evidence required in assessment is workplace based and is not covered during the course. Please contact us for the cost of this assessment.
Please note that from 1 January 2015, Unity Training Services can be prevented from issuing a nationally recognised VET qualification or statement of attainment when you compete your course if you do not have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). To obtain a statement of attainment, participants are to successfully complete formal assessments (At a nominal charge) for the units plus complete another 2 core units and 4 elective units in the training package. In addition, we are required to include the USI in the data we submit to NCVER. You can apply for a USI via the website https://www.usi.gov.au.
Participants in this course should note that formal assessment is not included therefore a certificate of attendance is issued. If participants wish to continue onto a Cert lll or lV in WHS then the units in this course must be added onto your USI.
We are a Nationally Recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO No. 4327).
