The WA Parliament is about to begin debate on the Work Health Safety Bill 2019. For all us concerned about preventing injury or loss of live through work, we need to keep up with these changes. The safety at work of almost all working people in WA, over 1.3 million people, is governed by these laws.
The new Bill is based on the national model Work Health and Safety Act, and will improve consistency with the rest of Australia by providing one piece of legislation for workplace safety and health across all Western Australian industries. The State Government's “single Act approach” means that the Occupational Health and Safety landscape can be streamlined and simplified in WA, with the Bill replacing three Acts: Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994; and the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Safety Levies Act 2011.
Owen Whittle, Assistant Secretary UnionsWA, will explain what is new and what is out. Bring your lunch on Wednesday 26th February from 12:30pm. To join us please complete details below.
